This weekly bulletin summarizes global security‑related intelligence updates for the period 21 ‑ 27 September 2026. According to our security‑risk assessment, regional security levels are shown on the global‑risk map. Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine, Venezuela and other territories are classified as Extreme‑Risk Zones. Armed conflicts, terrorist attacks and other security incidents occurred frequently in these regions during this period. Overseas Chinese‑funded enterprises shall strengthen their own security precautions.

Middle East
(1) Syria
Arms‑depot explosion in Aleppo Governorate leaves four injured. On 21 September, an explosion hit an arms depot in Aleppo Governorate, northern Syria, injuring at least four people. The cause of the incident remains under investigation. This marks the third arms‑depot explosion recorded this month.
(2) Iraq
Two clashes leave eight injured. On 24 September, two separate clashes broke out in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, Iraq, with a combined toll of eight injured. The first clash in Madan, eastern Ur district injured four persons, with 14 arrests and four motor vehicles damaged. The second clash in northern Nasr district also caused four injuries, one in critical condition. Security forces have secured the scene and launched an investigation.
(3) Iran
Ongoing maritime stand‑off with the United States. Between 21 ‑ 27 September, Iran and the United States maintained a maritime stand‑off across the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Middle‑East fleet units continued patrolling the Gulf of Oman and waters around the Strait of Hormuz to sustain maritime‑blockade deployments. On 26 September, the United States rejected Iran’s seven‑day navigation proposal, explicitly affirming its intention to retain dominant control over the strait. On 21 September, Iran shot down a U.S. reconnaissance drone operating in airspace above the Strait of Hormuz. Regarding casualty figures, on 25 September Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stated at UN Headquarters in New York that U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran had killed over 5,000 people, including hundreds of women and children.
Armed attack: one killed, three injured. On 21 September, a vehicle carrying police officers was ambushed in Sistan‑Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran. The attack left one police officer dead and three wounded. Identification and manhunt operations targeting the perpetrators are currently underway.
(4) Palestine‑Israel
Israel‑Palestine conflict has caused 73,500 fatalities in the Gaza Strip. From 21‑27 September, Israel launched strikes across multiple locations in Gaza, inflicting numerous casualties. On 21 September, Israeli troops opened fire and shelled displacement‑camps in central Gaza as well as Khan Younis in southern Gaza; multiple Palestinians sustained wounds including one critically‑injured casualty. On 23 September, Israeli Defence Minister Katz announced that the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) had killed Muhammad Abu Alwan, head of the finance department of Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement), in Khan Younis, Gaza. According to figures released by the Gaza Ministry of Health on 26 September: since the entry‑into‑force of Phase‑One Gaza cease‑fire agreement in October 2025, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in 1,410 deaths and 4,850 injuries. Since the outbreak of the renewed round of Israel‑Palestine hostilities in October 2023, Israeli military campaigns in Gaza have killed 73,538 people and wounded 174,961 persons.

Two Israeli soldiers killed by exploding IDF drone crash. On 24 September, the Israel Defence Forces issued a statement reporting the crash and in‑flight detonation of a small military drone within Gaza Strip territory. Two Israeli servicemen were killed. The root cause of the explosion is yet to be established.
(5) Yemen
Saudi airstrikes: 15 fatalities, eight injuries. On 21 September, Saudi‑Arabia fighter jets bombed a Houthi‑controlled prison in Hazm city, Al‑Jawf Governorate in northern Yemen, killing nine detainees. On 22 September, another Saudi airstrike struck Mokha city in south‑western Taiz Governorate, Yemen, leaving six dead and eight wounded.
Government forces inflict dozens of Houthi casualties. On 22 September, Majid Nuzaili, spokesperson for Yemeni government forces, reported armed engagements between government troops and Houthi fighters in Taiz Governorate, south‑western Yemen. Government troops repelled repeated Houthi assaults: 12 Houthi militants were killed, dozens wounded and two captured. Government‑side losses included four soldiers killed plus several service members wounded.
(6) Saudi Arabia
Multiple locations hit by Houthi attacks. During 24‑26 September, the Yemeni Houthi movement launched assaults against Taif, Yanbu and Khamis Mushait cities of Saudi Arabia, firing a total of nine ballistic missiles plus dozens of attack drones. On 24 September, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sare’a announced that his organisation had conducted a large‑scale strike targeting multiple military sites in the Jizan region using dozens of ballistic missiles and drones, “causing hundreds of casualties” and setting several arms depots on fire.
(7) Türkiye
Shooting incident in Manisa Province leaves eight injured. On 22 September, gunfire erupted outside a vocational‑technical high school in Turgutlu, western Türkiye’s Manisa Province, with eight people wounded. Police have detained one suspect; the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

(8) Lebanon
Multiple southern Lebanese sites struck by IDF attacks. On 27 September, Israel carried out strikes across several localities in southern Lebanon; casualty information is not yet available. The IDF stated that these strikes were retaliation for the drone attack launched by Hezbollah against Israeli military positions on 26 September.
Asia‑Pacific Region
(1) Afghanistan
Pakistani airstrikes cause 7 deaths, 4 injuries. On 21 September, Pakistani air raids hit Kunar and Paktika Provinces of Afghanistan, killing three civilians and wounding four. In addition, one residential house and one shop in Paktika Province were bombed with no immediate casualty reports. On 24 September, further Pakistani airstrikes targeted Paktia, Khost in eastern Afghanistan and Kandahar in the south, leaving at least four dead. Mujahid, spokesperson for the Afghan administration, released a social‑media statement the same day, declaring Afghanistan would deliver an “appropriate response” to Pakistan’s “barbaric aggression”.

(2) Pakistan
Suicide‑bombing at security checkpoint in Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa Province kills 12, injures 35. On 26 September, a suicide‑bomber rammed an explosive‑laden tractor into a security‑checkpoint outpost in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. Twelve persons died and 35 were wounded; numerous civilian casualties occurred alongside damage to multiple vehicles.
Counter‑terrorism operations kill 37 militants. On 21 September, Pakistani security forces launched counter‑terrorist sweeps within Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa Province and along the Afghanistan‑Pakistan border, eliminating a total of 37 armed militants. Ground operations in Kohat killed nine insurgents; a further 28 militants were eliminated on the shared border. On 24 September, Pakistani military forces killed several Afghanistan‑based militants in the Gulistan area of south‑western Balochistan Province.
(3) Republic of Korea
Landmine blast near ROK‑DPRK military demarcation line injures three ROK soldiers, two critically. On 21 September, Republic of Korea army personnel were carrying out duties on the southern side of the Military Demarcation Line when a landmine detonated, leaving three service members wounded, two in critical condition. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.
(4) Thailand
Yala‑province gun‑attack leaves two wounded. On 20 September, gang‑related gun violence broke out in Thanabon, Yala city, Yala Province, Thailand, injuring two people. Police are hunting the perpetrators and investigating the motive.
(5) Bangladesh
Armed robbery reported at Chinese‑funded enterprise in Dhaka Division. On 21 September, a knife‑armed robbery took place at a Chinese‑owned battery‑manufacturing plant in Damrai, Dhaka Division, Bangladesh, resulting in property losses. The perpetrators cut through window bars to enter the premises, restrained a Chinese‑national site manager, stole 7 million Taka (approx. 380 000 CNY) from the company safe, and then fled. Investigations are ongoing.
(6) Australia
Knife assault in New South Wales leaves one child dead, three injured. Media reports dated 21 September covered a stabbing incident occurring on 20 September within the Blue Mountains district, New South Wales, Australia: one child was killed, with three other injured persons including two children. The assailant remains at large.
Africa
(1) Nigeria
Armed‑militant raid in Niger State kills four, wounds two. On 23 September, unidentified gunmen launched an attack within Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State, Nigeria, resulting in four fatalities and two injuries.
(2) South Africa
Series of shooting incidents: 38 dead, 26 injured. On 22 September, a shooting spree in Durban city, KwaZulu‑Natal Province killed at least eleven people (including one pregnant woman) and wounded three. Unknown gunmen forced entry into a private dwelling and opened fire on occupants; ten victims died on‑site and one succumbed to injuries en‑route to hospital. The attackers also set fire to a motor vehicle. Suspect identity and motive remain undetermined; police note possible gang‑conflict links. On 27 September, two successive mass‑shooting events struck the West Rand area of Gauteng Province and Strand of Western Cape Province, with a combined casualty toll of 27 dead and 26 wounded.
(3) Sudan
Armed hostilities persist. From 21‑27 September, sustained fighting continued between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) across multiple locations in Sudan. This week’s combat was concentrated primarily within North Kordofan, South Kordofan and Darfur regions, inflicting heavy civilian casualties. On 21 September, a drone‑strike hit El‑Obeid, capital of North Kordofan State: two civilians killed, twenty injured. On 25 September, drone strikes targeted civilian infrastructure including displacement camps, petrol stations and private residences in El‑Obeid, again killing two civilians and wounding twenty. The same day, a drone attack on Mazrab district in western North Kordofan killed at least nine civilians and injured 24. After more than three‑and‑a‑half‑years of continuous armed conflict, the total confirmed death toll has reached no fewer than 59 000 persons.
(4) Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
Six Chinese nationals abducted. Media reports released 24 September state that six Chinese citizens were kidnapped on 20 September at a mining‑construction site in Ituri Province, DRC, by the anti‑government armed group CRP (Forces Révolutionnaires du Peuple / People’s Revolutionary Armed Forces). One local interpreter, fourteen Congolese workers and four government‑soldiers were also detained. At present, there are no reports confirming release or rescue of the abducted Chinese nationals.
Two boat‑sinking accidents kill 12 people with many missing. On 24 September, a vessel capsized on the Congolese shore of Lake Tanganyika in Tanganyika Province, south‑eastern DRC: 41 people remain missing while 43 survivors were rescued. The accident cause is unknown; search‑and‑rescue operations continue. On 27 September, another ship‑wreck took place on Lake Kivu in eastern DRC, leaving at least twelve confirmed fatalities plus dozens still unaccounted‑for. The vessel departed from Bukavu, capital of South Kivu Province, before capsizing mid‑voyage; an estimated more than 80 passengers had been aboard. Rescue teams pulled five survivors from the water, while dozens remain missing. Search operations are still underway and the cause is unconfirmed.
Europe & Americas
(1) United States
Three separate shooting incidents result in one fatality, three injuries. On 21 September, gunfire erupted inside a self‑service laundromat at 760 Astor Avenue, Bronx, New York City, wounding two persons. On 22 September, a shooting at McLaughlin Park, downtown Brooklyn, New York City killed one individual. On that same day, another shooting took place inside a supermarket at 6925 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, injuring one victim.
(2) Ukraine
Russia‑Ukraine armed conflict continues. Hostilities between Russian and Ukrainian forces persisted over 21‑27 September. The Russian Ministry of Defence released recent combat summaries stating that during the past week, Russia delivered salvo strikes using high‑precision munitions and drones targeting Ukraine’s military‑industrial facilities, energy assets, port infrastructure, transportation hubs, military‑logistics depots and communications centres. Russian tactical aviation, attack‑drone units, missile‑troops and artillery engaged logistical hubs, drone‑assembly workshops and storage sites spread across 148 localities in Ukraine. Russian ground forces secured multiple populated settlements in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts. In addition, Russia’s Black Sea Fleet destroyed one unmanned surface vessel near Crimean coastal waters. On the Ukrainian side, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian troops repelled Russian offensive operations on multiple axes this week and mounted counter‑offensives in the directions of Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka. Ukraine kept deploying drones and unmanned surface craft to strike energy and port infrastructure within mainland Russia and the Black‑Sea littoral. Moreover, between 22‑25 September, ten Ukrainian oblasts including Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv and Odesa came under attack by Russian Zircon and Iskander‑M hypersonic missiles plus drones, causing dozens of deaths and injuries.
(3) Russian Federation
Drone attacks kill three civilians and wound fifteen. On 22 September, an Ukrainian drone‑strike hit the Kuibyshev oil‑refinery in Samara Oblast, south‑western Russia, sparking a large‑scale fire; casualty data for this incident remains undisclosed. On 24 September, Novorossiysk city within Krasnodar Krai sustained Ukrainian drone strikes: two people killed, seven wounded; five residential buildings and one hotel sustained damage. On 25 September, an industrial facility in Perm Krai was targeted in an attack which caused one fatality. On that same day, the capital city of Ulyanovsk Oblast was subjected to massed drone assaults; eight persons were injured and both industrial and civilian infrastructure suffered damage.
(4) Argentina
Multiple assaults leave three injured. On 22 September, two street‑violence incidents occurred within the Arturo Seguí district of La Plata city, Buenos Aires Province, injuring two people in aggregate. On 23 September, a violent assault took place in Lomas de los Chajeros neighbourhood, Pilar city, Buenos Aires Province, causing one injury.
(5) Ecuador
Multiple armed attacks in Guayaquil kill eight and wound five. On 21 September, successive armed assaults struck the Flor de Bastión and Tiwinza districts of Guayaquil city, leaving five dead and three injured. On 22 September, three separate shooting incidents broke out in El Fortín district of Guayaquil, resulting in three fatalities and two wounded persons.
(6) Mexico
Shooting at baseball field in Guanajuato State kills four, injures five. On 21 September, gunfire erupted at a baseball stadium in Santiago del Valle, Guanajuato State, Mexico, killing four people and wounding five. Police confirmed the incident is linked to inter‑gang violence.
Maritime Security
(1) Strait of Hormuz
Three vessels attacked; four crew‑members injured. On 21 September, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) notified that an oil‑tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile within the Strait of Hormuz, inflicting minor injuries upon two crew‑members. On the same day, fragments from an unknown projectile hit an LPG carrier in waters near the Strait of Hormuz; all crew were safe with no pollution reported. On 23 September, a cargo‑ship was hit by an unidentified flying object and caught fire inside the Strait of Hormuz, leaving two crew‑members wounded. The vessel is now adrift; the entire crew has been evacuated, with no pollution incidents documented so far.
(2) Russian Federation
Shipboard fire leaves four crew missing. On 25 September, fire broke out aboard a Russian vessel operating in coastal waters off southern Kamchatka Peninsula, resulting in four missing seafarers. A passing merchant‑ship rescued twenty‑five crew‑members. Search‑and‑rescue efforts remain ongoing.
