(1) Iraq
Shia militia bases targeted by US-Saudi airstrikes. On 29 July, multiple bases of the Iraqi Shia militia Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were struck by joint US and Saudi forces. The attacks killed at least 20 people and injured 32, damaging facilities, vehicles and military equipment. Targets included PMF headquarters in Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, Karbala, Diyala and other provinces.On the same day, the Iraqi Presidency issued a statement strongly condemning the strikes, describing them as an egregious violation of Iraqi sovereignty and a breach of international law and the UN Charter.

(2) Iran
Renewed armed clashes with the United States amid ongoing standoff in the Strait of Hormuz (27 July – 2 August).On 29 July, U.S. Central Command announced that after a brief ceasefire, U.S. forces launched large-scale strikes against Iran at 22:00 Eastern Time. Targets covered military command hubs, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defence bases, and maritime operational assets.On 30 July, U.S. Central Command confirmed ongoing maritime blockade operations against Iran. By that date, 24 merchant vessels had been diverted, 2 vessels lost propulsion, and 2 were boarded for inspection.In retaliation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched strikes against U.S. military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain. On 30 July, the IRGC stated its attacks destroyed two drone hangars, one fuel depot for military aircraft and helicopters, and three F-35 fighter jets, inflicting enemy casualties. The IRGC also confirmed three of its personnel were killed in U.S. strikes on Iran.
(3) Palestine & Israel
Gaza death toll from Israel-Palestine conflict surpasses 73,300. Between 27 July and 2 August, Israel carried out multiple attacks across Gaza causing casualties.On 27 July, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) raided Khan Yunis in Gaza, killing two people including a commander of the Al-Quds Brigades’ Nukhba Force under Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).On 30 July, airstrikes hit multiple locations in Gaza, leaving at least two dead and several wounded.Figures released by the Gaza Ministry of Health on 31 July: Since the entry into force of the first phase Gaza ceasefire agreement in October 2025, Israeli operations in Gaza have killed 1,214 people and injured 3,977. Since the outbreak of the latest round of Israel-Palestine conflict in October 2023, Israeli military actions in Gaza have caused more than 73,341 deaths and 174,086 injuries.
(4) Lebanon
Israeli attacks trigger heavy casualties. On 27 July, the Lebanese Presidency stated Israel had violated the Lebanon-Israel framework agreement by continuing airstrikes, artillery shelling and deployment of explosive ordnance in densely populated areas, resulting in heavy civilian losses.Statistics released by the Lebanese Ministry of Health on 28 July: Since the resumption of hostilities on 2 March, Israeli assaults have killed 4,333 people and wounded 12,236 in Lebanon, including 135 medical personnel killed and 410 injured.
(5) Saudi Arabia
Oil infrastructure targeted by drone strikes. On 27 July, the Houthi movement in Yemen claimed it launched multiple drones to hit facilities linked to Saudi crude oil transport networks, in retaliation for alleged Saudi drone incursions into Yemeni airspace.
Multiple hostile drones intercepted and destroyed. On 27 July, the Saudi Ministry of Defence announced air defence forces intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraq aiming to strike Saudi oil installations. The Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a strongest condemnation and urged Iraq to prevent further similar incidents.

(1) Afghanistan
Provincial official shot dead in Badakhshan. On 28 July, Zabihullah Amiri, Director of the Information and Culture Department of Badakhshan Province, was killed by two motorbike gunmen while travelling from Baharak District to Faizabad, the provincial capital. One attacker was killed in an exchange of fire while the other fled; manhunt operations are underway. No group has claimed responsibility.
(2) Pakistan
- Two attacks leave 29 dead and 48 injured.On 29 July, an armed assault on a checkpoint in Hangu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in northwest Pakistan killed at least seven people and wounded 22. Eight attackers were killed. No group claimed responsibility, and counterterror operations continue.On 2 August, a bomb exploded near a police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, killing at least 14 and injuring 26. Police stated a suicide bomber detonated explosives while being searched outside the police station in Swat District. Hundreds of locals were protesting terrorist violence in the adjacent square at the time. No group claimed the attack.

- Counterterror operations kill 32 militants. On 29 July, Pakistan’s military announced security forces eliminated 32 terrorists within 24 hours during operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Between the evening of 28 July and 29 July, 24 militants were killed in operations in Khyber District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; a further eight were killed in Nushki, Balochistan. Large quantities of weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were seized.
(3) Philippines
Explosion in Manila. On 27 July, an IED detonated near the Department of Justice in Manila, causing no casualties. Separately, police defused another IED near the Philippine Senate the same day. Investigations are ongoing.
(4) Japan
M7.1 earthquake hits Kumamoto, killing 38 and displacing nearly 10,000 people. On 28 July, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture. The quake killed 38 people, damaged 1,500 buildings, cut water supplies to 79,000 households, and forced 9,532 people to shelter across 348 evacuation sites.

Multi-vehicle collision in Oita leaves 10 injured. On 27 July, a pile-up involving two coaches and three passenger cars occurred in Oita Prefecture in southwest Japan, injuring over ten people. The cause remains under investigation.
(5) New Zealand
Tour bus carrying Chinese tourists overturns; passengers sustain minor injuries. On 28 July, a coach transporting Chinese tourists overturned at The Narrows on the Queenstown–Glenorchy highway. Several passengers suffered light injuries. The Chinese Embassy reminds Chinese nationals travelling on the South Island of New Zealand of volatile weather conditions, advising reduced driving speeds and enhanced safety awareness.
Africa
(1) Nigeria
Series of attacks kill 51 people and abduct five. Based on monitoring reports from Hanwei International West Africa Security Officers:27 July: Militants raided a village in Kaduna State in northwest Nigeria, killing at least 30 and wounding four.28 July: An active-duty military officer was shot dead in Kurudu, Abuja. Suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked a community in Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State, killing four.29 July: Militants assaulted a village in Benue State, killing at least 14. A mosque in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State came under attack, leaving three dead and multiple abducted. That evening, armed men targeted a student dormitory in Ogun State and kidnapped five students.
(2) South Africa
Three shootings in Western Cape kill 11. On 27 July, three separate shooting incidents in Cape Town claimed 11 lives and injured at least three. Gunmen stormed a residence in Gugulethu, killing five and wounding one. A further four died in an attack near Stellenbosch in Kayamandi; two police officers were wounded during an exchange of fire. Two men were fatally shot in Manenberg, and a 74-year-old woman was hit by stray bullets. Police investigations continue; links between the incidents are unconfirmed.
Fire in Eastern Cape kills six foreign nationals. On 28 July, a shop fire in Tsomo, Eastern Cape killed six foreign nationals. Initial assessments rule out criminal intent; the cause is pending confirmation.
Bus rollover in Free State leaves 11 dead. On 31 July, a bus carrying 60 passengers overturned on a highway north of Trompsburg in Free State Province. Eleven people including five children died and many others were injured. Investigations are underway.
(3) Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
Multiple armed attacks kill two, injure two and trigger abductions.
27 July: Unknown militants attacked Makumo Village, Mambasa Territory, Ituri Province, killing one civilian and wounding another.
28 July: Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a Ugandan rebel group, raided Nakoa Village, Mambasa Territory, Ituri Province and abducted six civilians. A truck was ambushed in Mambango Community, Beni Territory, North Kivu Province; the driver was killed, a passenger wounded, and cargo stolen. Assailants remain at large.
Ebola outbreak kills 1,487 people. On 29 July, the DRC Ministry of Health published an epidemic report: As of 27 July, cumulative confirmed Ebola cases reached 3,360 with 1,487 fatalities. The WHO Regional Office for Africa noted sustained transmission and rising deaths. High population mobility and cross-border movement create substantial risks of wider epidemic spread.
(4) Sudan
Armed conflict continues. Between 27 July and 2 August, sustained fighting persisted nationwide between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Heavy clashes focused on key locations in North Kordofan State this week. Escalating conflict has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis. UN data indicates nearly 19.5 million Sudanese face acute food insecurity; famine risks remain elevated in parts of Darfur and North Kordofan, with hundreds of thousands of children suffering severe acute malnutrition. Widespread infrastructure destruction, collapsed medical services, chronic shortages of water, electricity and food have displaced massive populations. Cholera, malaria, measles and other diseases are spreading rapidly.
(5) Kenya
Security forces ambushed in Mandera County; five soldiers killed. On 29 July, security forces were ambushed by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Kutulo, Mandera County. An IED detonated against their vehicles followed by gunfire, causing multiple casualties including five fatalities among troops.

(1) United States
Two shooting incidents leave six dead. On 27 July, media reported a shooting at Seattle Center during a food festival in downtown Seattle, Washington on the evening of 26 July that killed three and wounded four. Police arrested a 15-year-old suspect; motives remain undisclosed.On 1 August, a shooting in Twin Falls, Idaho killed three and injured at least two people.
(2) Ukraine
Russia-Ukraine hostilities continue (27 July – 2 August).Russia’s Ministry of Defence reported over the past week, Russian forces launched large-scale strikes using long-range precision land, sea and air assets and attack drones targeting Ukrainian military airfields, defence enterprises, energy and transport infrastructure, as well as 142 temporary deployment sites, ammunition depots, fuel storage facilities and drone manufacturing/storage hubs for Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries. Russian forces seized four settlements in Kharkiv, Sumy and Donetsk regions.Ukraine’s General Staff stated more than 1,000 combat engagements occurred across frontlines this week. Ukrainian troops repelled multiple Russian offensives in south Slobozhanshchyna, Kupiansk, Pokrovsk and other directions. Ukrainian long-range strikes targeted dozens of Russian logistics depots, fuel storage sites and drone warehouses. Ukraine also launched remote attacks on industrial facilities and energy infrastructure in Udmurtia, Russia.
(3) Russia
Bombing in central Moscow kills three and injures 21. On 1 August, an IED exploded near an open-air café on Kudrinskaya Square in central Moscow, killing three people and wounding 21. Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee stated an unidentified female attempted to bring explosive devices into the venue but was stopped by security staff, triggering detonation. The security guard, the female suspect and one customer died in the blast. Investigations are ongoing.
(4) Canada
US Consulate General in Toronto shot at. On 27 July, shots were fired at the US Consulate General in Toronto with no casualties. This marks the second attack targeting the building this year.
(5) Mexico
Two shooting incidents kill one and injure two. On 29 July, two motorbike gunmen opened fire on a public bus in Jalpa de Méndez, Tabasco State, injuring two passengers. On 30 July, a shooting occurred in La Floresta district, Hermosillo, Sonora State, killing one person.
(6) France
Stabbing attack in Paris leaves three injured. On 27 July, a knife attack took place in central Paris, injuring three people. The assailant was arrested. French interior authorities have yet to confirm the attacker’s motive.Photo: Incident scene
(7) Belgium
Shooting in Brussels injures one. On 28 July, a shooting occurred near industrial docks in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Brussels, leaving one person seriously wounded. The attacker remains at large.

(8) Spain
Illegal migrant crisis at Ceuta leaves 67 dead. On 31 July, roughly 49,000 migrants attempted to cross illegally from Morocco into Ceuta, Spain’s North African enclave. At least 67 died, mostly from drowning. Spain deployed military troops to support the Civil Guard amid the escalating migrant crisis.
(9) Colombia
Truck bomb near police station in Norte de Santander injures 10. On 1 August, a truck bomb detonated close to a police station in Cúcuta, capital of Norte de Santander Department in northern Colombia, injuring at least 10 people including seven police officers. No armed group claimed responsibility; investigations proceed.
Maritime Security
(1) Strait of Hormuz
Iran targets five “non-compliant” oil tankers. On 29 July, the IRGC Navy announced it retains full control of the Strait of Hormuz and struck and intercepted three tankers deemed “non-compliant” for ignoring warnings and sailing along unsafe, unauthorised routes. On 31 July, two more tankers attempting to transit via undeclared routes were hit; four other tankers altered their navigation paths.
(2) Papua New Guinea
Boat capsizing kills four Chinese citizens. On 27 July, the Chinese Embassy in Papua New Guinea reported a small vessel capsized near Lihir Island, New Ireland Province. Multiple fatalities were confirmed, including four Chinese nationals.
(3) Red Sea
Patrol boat attacked; three crew missing. On 27 July, Yemeni government forces reported a naval patrol boat was attacked by Houthi forces near Zuqar Island in the Red Sea. Three crew members are missing and the vessel was destroyed. The Houthi movement has issued no statement on the incident.
(4) Mediterranean Sea
Vessel attacked at Damietta Port, Egypt. On 29 July, a US liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship docked at Damietta Port on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast was targeted by a drone strike, sparking a fire that spread to a nearby Greek vessel. No casualties were reported, and no party claimed responsibility.
